Apron Tales Carry Their Stories at Historical Society Exhibit

Whether gathering eggs from the henhouse or rolling our sugar cookies, women once donned aprons as a way to protect their clothing from spills, splatters and even as oven mitts. The Waynesboro Historical Society is encouraging those who collect aprons – or still hold grandma’s close to their heart – to loan them for a display slated for the entire month of March, lovingly called Apron Tales.

Waynesboro resident and apron-collector, Molly Allen, is excited to participate in the exhibit. Molly, who lives on Broad Street with her husband and two young boys, enjoys mid-century fashions and décor. “While the appeal of aprons faded in the 60s, I’m excited to see a resurgence of vintage economical thoughts and the fashion that accompanied it – from baking to sewing and gardening – looking forward to seeing the area’s family heirlooms of aprons on display, and reintroduce the Oller House to its mid-century days,” explains Allen.

Apron Tales is slated to run at the Oller House from Thursday, March 7 through Saturday, March 30. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
